Introduction

Efficiency is a critical concept in acieving ISO 20000 and yet ISO leaves it undefined in the standard.

Efficiency Principles:

  1. Planning and Scheduling - Any business without adequate planning and scheduling is alike a ship without a rudder, sailing on an unknown sea toward an unknown destination.

  2. Simplification - doing things in the easiest way means doing things by the most practical short-cut method, stripped of the waste and useless effort that take time and energy.

  3. Standardization - It is the standardization of all the parts and the production of these standard parts on a vast scale that make possible the popular-priced car, the dollar watches, the cheap books, the low-priced safety razors, and many other commodities that were formerly available only for the well-to-do.

  4. Adequate Records - It is of the utmost importance to know the facts of any business and to be able to chart past accomplishment as a guide to future conduct.

  5. Elimination of Waste - When, out of production is built up, an dthis usually at a decrease of expense and at a tangible saving in energy and fatigue, then it can truly be said that progress has been made.

  6. Co-operation - ... unless the spirit of loyal teamwork is present, the results will not be impressive.

  7. Altruism - All the efficiency princoples in the world are of little avail without the spirit of service, a desire to accomplish something worth while for others.
